A lottery winner has been granted permission to refurbish a country pile and turn it into a holiday let. The two-story mansion, which has been unoccupied for several months, will undergo a major renovation.

A lottery winner has been granted permission to refurbish a country pile and turn it into a holiday let. Adrian, 53, scooped £100,000 from a scratchcard in the past, but is now facing jail for blowing the money. The two-storey thatched mansion, set in 900 acres, has been unoccupied since August 2023.

Planning permission was granted for the refurbishment project, which includes redecoration, a refitted kitchen, a converted first-floor bedroom into a bathroom, and restoring and repainting sash windows. The planning and access statement explained: 'The applicant seeks full planning permission for the change of use of Great Wilbraham Hall Farmhouse from residential use to short-term holiday let. The change of use will not result in any external changes to the building or surrounding area. However, to facilitate the short-term holiday lettings, an internal reconfiguration is proposed.' Officials said that the property has been vacant for some time and there are signs of deterioration, making a refurbishment programme necessary to bring the property back into a viable use.
