The actress who won hearts as Aurelia in the holiday classic revealed her musical past as a Eurovision contestant.
It's been over two decades since Love Actually graced our screens, quickly becoming a festive favourite for many. Yet, in an interesting twist that might surprise fans of the film, there's more to the character Aurelia than meets the eye. The character, who captured hearts with her romance with Colin Firth's Jamie, is played by Ana Lucia Pereira Moniz, an actress of considerable fame in her own right.
Not only did Moniz charm viewers as Aurelia, but she also represented Portugal at the 1996 Eurovision Song Contest. Beyond her role in the timeless Christmas movie, the talented artist has released five music albums. Now with one week until the big day, TikTok users recently expressed their amazement as they discovered Moniz's Eurovision past in a resurfaced video clip from the contest. While many were oblivious to her musical journey, others dubbed it their 'favourite' Portuguese entry. Despite the acclaim she received for the role of Aurelia, it was back in the Eurovision arena where Moniz initially shone, securing the sixth spot out of 23 contenders, making her one of Portugal's most successful Eurovision entrants to date. Every year as Christmas approaches, Love Actually enthusiasts relish the moment Aurelia and Jamie's unlikely love story unfolds, despite the language barrier. Moniz's portrayal of Aurelia remains a testament to the universal language of love. Her first major international break was one that many people still remember her for. However, the actress has since had a successful and diverse career. In 2011, Moniz's design work for a cookbook earned her a Gourmand Award. Additionally, a book of her photographs, titled Vou Tentar Falar Sem Dizer Nada, was published two years later. Much to the delight of many, Moniz reprised her role from Love Actually in 2017 for Comic Relief. The short-film sequel was created to raise funds for the charity, reuniting many of the film's beloved stars
