Love Island and Made In Chelsea star Zara has joined Layton Williams, Angela Rippon, and Amanda Abbington in the line-up
Zara McDermott has been announced as the latest contestant taking part in Strictly Come Dancing. The Love Island alum, who is dating reality star Sam Thompson, has joined the line-up for Strictly alongside Layton Williams, Angela Rippon, and Amanda Abbington.
In a statement, Zara said: "I grew up watching it every year with my nan and she was the biggest Strictly fan. We would dance around the house and I have such fond memories of that time in my life. Sherlock actress Amanda has been paraded with calls to be axed from the ballroom dancing show after being accused of transphobia. Amanda addressed the situation after threats were made to boycott Strictly over her involvement. She said: “Apparently I'm trending on Twitter. I'm not on Twitter anymore. I left voluntarily because I don't like it over there anymore.
Top TV news She continued: “Personally speaking, I don't think 12-year-olds should be performing in drag shows in overtly sexual ways because they're 12 and they need a childhood. It's nice for kids to have a childhood and grow up, and find that out when they're old enough to really understand it.
