He also throttled her during violent incidents and punched holes in her bathroom door. His victim secretly recorded the aftermath of one attack which heard her repeatedly beg him to leave her home. She went to senior officers after being subjected to a torrent of abuse during a phone call where he accused her of infidelity and labelled her a 'bike' and a 'slut'.
The jury was also shown photos of bruising to her neck after she had been strangled by him. In one recording played to court, she could be heard sobbing as she repeatedly begged McNally to leave her home. He said: "The things I did I have admitted to, I have admitted taking the phone and punching the door but the strangulation did not happen. I was upset in that recording, she was upset and I was just trying to de-escalate it. I have been telling the truth."
