Former school pupils meet for reunion after their school closed 39 years ago
Liverpool Institute for Girls closed in 1985 but ex-pupils are still in touch and are planning a huge reunion in May. The school originally opened in 1844 as a school and teacher training college, closed after a 141 year history, it is now home to Blackburne House, a women's education centre.
"Nobody in my home had been to university before. I went to do English Literature, became an English teacher and taught English for a few years in London. Literature and poetry has always been a big thing in my life, then my career changed and I went into management and business." The main speaker will be Andrea Rushton, CEO of Blackburne House Group, including; lunch, activities, old school uniforms and badges and a photographic display, which will be permanent.
"About a year ago we started having get-togethers, coffee mornings, at Blackburne House, sometimes 25 to 30 people from Liverpool will come together. Last time we had a coffee morning there was a lady on holiday from Canada, and she was 89. Jennifer Bullock said: "My mum went to Blackburne House, it was her old school. I’ve recently joined to do a counselling course and I could not be more proud to be here.
