Families normally eligible for free school meals could be due extra payments to help them cover the cost of food over the six-week break. Advice Direct Scotland is behind the latest appeal to families. The advice service is urging parents in Scotland who qualify for free school meals, but may not get them yet, to take action – before the end of the school term.
'The good news is that for those whose children are eligible for free school meals, payments are available throughout the summer, so we would urge anyone who might benefit to apply now.' While the exact holiday dates vary by council, this means that a household with two children could be entitled to around £150 over the course of the six-week summer break.
What if I don't live in Scotland? Families living in England, Wales or Northern Ireland may also be entitled to help over the summer holidays.
