THE low pressure area (LPA) off Eastern Visayas has developed into a tropical depression called 'Chedeng,' the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said on Tuesday.
Pagasa said in its 11 a.m. bulletin, however, that Chedeng is forecast to remain far from the Philippine landmass.As such, it is unlikely to directly bring heavy rainfall over any portion of the country in the next three to five days, it said.The bulletin said Chedeng was estimated at 1,170 kilometers east of southeastern Luzon while moving almost stationary.The tropical depression has maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 55 kph.
'As the tropical depression continues to consolidate while intensifying, it is forecast to gradually accelerate and move generally northwestward Tuesday before turning west northwestward Wednesday,' the state-run weather agency said.Owing to favorable environmental conditions, Chedeng is forecast to intensify in the next four days and may be upgraded to tropical storm category by Wednesday, it added.
