EARLY P1 billion in penalties and fines has been collected from erring motorists in the first half of 2024, the Land Transportation Office said Tuesday. LTO said they collected P986.5 million in penalties and fines for traffic violations from January 1 to June 30 with a total of 330,073 motorists apprehended nationwide under LTO 's campaign to intensify road safety through road courtesy and discipline.
'We are asking them to settle on time because failure to do so would result in the payment of higher fines and penalties,' Mendoza said.'As much as possible, we in the LTO do not want motorists to pay any fines or penalties. But in the interest of the rule of law and road safety, we have to do this if this is what it takes to instill discipline on the road,' he added.
