A nurse accused of killing babies has told a jury she cannot explain how a child she was caring for came to have high levels of insulin in his blood

Child L was found to have low blood sugar levels shortly after birth and a doctor prescribed a 10 per cent dextrose solution to be administered via an IV bag. Ms Letby and another nurse carried out this task, jurors have been told. Asked by her defence barrister, Ben Myers KC, about Child L’s blood sugar readings after the bag was fitted, Ms Letby agreed that they should not have remained so low.The Countess of Chester Hospital in Cheshire where the alleged incidents took place “No,” Ms Letby replied.Prosecutors allege that at the same time as Child L was being poisoned with insulin, Ms Letby carried out an attack on his twin brother, Child M, possibly by injecting air into him.
