Letby, 34, spent a day being grilled at Manchester Crown Court
Convicted murder Lucy Letby has denied killing any babies in her care when she was a nurse or 'looking for grief by searching their names on Facebook.
After swearing on the bible to tell the truth, the defendant told her KC Ben Myers she had not intended to harm any babies in her care. Asked what would happen to a child of 25 weeks' gestation if their endotracheal tube was 'deliberately dislodged', the defendant said: "That's a hypothetical question."
"You actually did it three times didn't you?" said the prosecutor, and Letby answered: "No, I didn't." The KC suggested to the defendant it was her case was that she was 'not the sort of person that kills babies and wouldn't have done that sort of thing'.Pressed further on the suggestion she 'would not do that sort of thing', Letby told the jury: "No, I would not.
She said she 'assumed' what police were telling her during her interviews about Dr Jayaram's account was 'the truth'. The prosecutor questioned the defendant why, 26 months after Child K's collapse, she had searched the infant's surname at around midnight on April 20, 2018. Asked why she had conducted the search, Letby said: "I can't answer that. I don't know why."
Letby told the jury: "Yes. I'm not guilty of what I was found guilty of." She added: "I looked up many parents, not just the babies here." The defendant said she carried 'a lot of babies around in my head'.The KC asked the defendant if she was 'looking for grief'. Letby said she didn't understand the question and the prosecutor suggested she was 'hoping to see grief' when she searched Facebook.Letby went into the witness box shortly before 10.
