The jury has retired to consider a verdict in the trial of a nurse accused of murdering babies on a neonatal unit.
All were babies that received care at the Countess of Chester and suffered what prosecutors decribe as unexpected collapses. Letby was removed from clinical duties at the end of June 2016 and was first arrested by Cheshire Police in 2018. Ben Myers KC, defending Letby, suggested to jurors these were the thoughts of a troubled woman who was struggling to cope with the strain she was under and was blaming herself.
