Luke Littler has made history by defeating Michael van Gerwen to win the 2025 World Darts Championship title. The 17-year-old is now the youngest darts world champion of all time in just his second appearance at the event. Littler, who made his World Darts Championship debut last year, shocked the world with a stunning run to the final. This time around, he went one better, claiming the Sid Waddell Trophy with a convincing 7-3 victory.
Friday's final marked the 13th meeting between the two rivals, with Littler now leading their head-to-head 7-6. Littler knew he had to be at his best to beat Van Gerwen, who had won their past three trophy deciders. There was early drama in the first leg with Van Gerwen busting his score, but Littler secured a break of throw. The opening set continued in a tense fashion until Littler clinched the fourth leg to take a 1-0 lead. Littler was averaging 93.28 compared to Van Gerwen's 91.35. Van Gerwen struggled on the outer-ring, allowing Littler to hold at the start of the second set and move 2-0 up after winning three legs in a row.
