The Toffees are lining up a summer swoop for the right-back, after the Black Cats recently confirmed that they will not be turning his loan move from RB Leipzig permanent this summer.
The right-back position has presented plenty of issues for the Merseysiders over the course of the campaign, and Geertruida is already being lined up as a solution in that department. Geertruida starred in the backline with six defensive contributions throughout the afternoon, and also won two tackles during the 90 minutes. His most impressive work came in the duels, as he ended the game with a 100 per cent success rate in battles that came both on the floor and in the air.
There is now internal clarity. Lutsharel Geertruida, who is on loan at Sunderland from Leipzig, will not remain at Sunderland beyond the summer. The Dutch international set to leave, and Sunderland will not… Moyes has always had a strong eye for defensive-minded players, and he must have been delighted with what he saw from his latest target.
The Toffees had scouts present to watch the 22-year-old in the Clarets’ recent 2-2 draw with Aston Villa, and are lining up a move to keep him in the top flight next term. Moyes and Co. are clearly keen to shop in their most familiar market this summer, with moves for Geertruida and Thaouna both in the offing.
