A burglary gang responsible for a string of raids across Nottinghamshire and beyond, targeting high-value vehicles worth an estimated £300,000, has been sentenced to a combined total exceeding 35 years in prison. This organized group primarily focused on larger detached homes, often striking in the dead of night while occupants slept.
Over a four-month period, they stole a variety of luxury vehicles, including brands such as BMW, Mercedes, and Audi, often utilizing these stolen cars in further criminal activities. One particularly harrowing case involved a pregnant woman, 38 weeks along, and her family. They were asleep in their home when the burglars struck, leaving them traumatized and without the means to transport the mother to the hospital after her delivery. The gang's brazen operation spanned several areas in Nottinghamshire, including Nottingham city center, Mapperley, Woodthorpe, Ruddington, Bingham, Radcliffe-on-Trent, and Cotgrave.Sentencing the nine-member group, Judge Stuart Rafferty KC emphasized the financial motivation behind their crimes and the impact on victims' sense of security. He stated, 'This was about money. This was about stealing expensive cars from large houses...You had knives, you had masks, you had all the equipment to snap locks to get in. It was also about helping yourselves to other people's property. The value of what you took was just under £300,001. £29,000 of (other) property was also taken, including jewellery which belonged to family members. What you stole and can't be replaced most of all is those people feeling safe in their houses again. Just imagine if someone broke into your home while your children or parents were asleep upstairs. You would be the first in the queue to complain.'The prosecution detailed how the gang utilized a specialized 'snap lock' technique, employing tools to break front or patio door handles, gaining entry before locating keys and stealing vehicles. They targeted properties with driveways and high-value vehicles, leaving a trail of burglaries, attempted burglaries, and thefts across several regions. The group's crimes sparked two dedicated Nottinghamshire police investigations, Operation Terrestrial and Operation Pavlolva, ultimately leading to their apprehension and conviction. All defendants pleaded guilty to charges including conspiracy to commit burglary, attempted burglary, and theft.
