A warning has been issued about Lyme disease as the arrival of spring sees people spending more time outdoors.
According to figures from the UKHSA, England saw a surge in Lyme disease cases between April and September 2023, with 882 acute instances compared to only 635 the previous year.READ MORE: Dealer said 'I knew this was coming' after police smashed family drug ring The UKHSA said "The number of laboratory-confirmed cases presented in this report is therefore likely an underestimate of the true burden of acute Lyme disease in England."It's a nasty infection caused by bacteria called Borrelia burgdorferi which is generally spread to humans through infected ticks. These creatures are like small spiders living in grassy and wooded areas.
