Essential safety maintenance work on the M1 motorway at junction 24 has been delayed due to adverse weather conditions. The work, originally scheduled to finish on Wednesday, December 18, will now last for seven days.
Planned work on the M1 motorway will not go ahead tonight after bad weather disrupted plans. The East Midlands' branch of National Highways, which looks after the UK's motorways, announced the news via a post on X at 1.30pm on Wednesday, December 18. The work, at the Kegworth interchange at junction 24, is described as ' safety maintenance ' listed as 'essential'. It includes resurfacing as well as refreshing road markings and studs.
Work started on Friday, December 13 and was set to finish on Wednesday, December 18. It will now last a day longer than planned - seven days in total. It means that the road will no longer be closed on Wednesday as planned and all routes will be open as usual. The work will resume and is due to be completed on with a number of routes closed between 8pm and 6am. Full diversions are in place. National Highways said it would maintain access for emergency services throughout and 'make every effort to minimise the impact of our work on the local community and the travelling public.
