The M6 will be closed for a few hours, says police M6 traffic
A lorry fire has closed a stretch of the M6 and M55 in Preston this morning.
Emergency crews were called to the southbound carriageway of the M6 between J32 for Broughton Interchange and J31A for Longridge. Photos show huge black plumes of smoke billowed across the motorway at the height of the blaze. Four fire engines were sent to the scene and the M6 southbound is closed, as well as the M55 eastbound. Police are asking motorists to be patient as huge delays and queues build in the area. They have also warned the motorway will be closed for a few hours.
The M55 closure is from J1 to the M6 J32 , with congestion reported back to J3 for Kirkham. There are also delays reported on the A583 Blackpool Road. Traffic delays are also reported on routes through Preston, including East Way, Tom Benson Way and roads around the prison. Also through Garstang, Broughton, and Bamber Bridge along the A6. There are also reports that the M6 northbound is slow due to onlookers.This is a live blog. Follow our updates below.
