National Highways said 'clearly signed diversions will be in place overnight when a carriageway is closed'
Motorists are being warned to brace themselves for another series of overnight closures on a busy stretch of the M6 motorway near Lancashire.
National Highways is gearing up to put the finishing touches on the Warrington to Wigan upgrade. The agency has announced the upcoming dates for engineering works, which aim to wrap up the resurfacing efforts integral to the motorway enhancement project. The scheme is set to bolster the M6 with additional emergency areas, cutting-edge technology, and an extra lane running in both directions between junctions 21a and 26. Moreover, the overhaul includes revamping the carriageway's surface across stretches between the Croft and Orrell interchanges. With most of the daytime operations now behind them, National Highways is shifting focus to night-time activities.
A spokesperson from National Highways conveyed: "Due to the size of the equipment required for the resurfacing there will be a series of 9pm to 6am overnight carriageway closures over the next few weeks."The spokesperson added: "The precise dates and times of the work may be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. Clearly signed diversions will be in place overnight when a carriageway is closed.
