American singer Macy Gray made a surprise exit from 'The Masked Singer UK' after performing as Toad in the Hole. The singer seemed visibly upset about her early departure, leaving fans speculating about her reaction.
On Saturday evening, viewers of The Masked Singer UK were treated to the revelation that Toad In The Hole was none other than American singer Macy Gray . Bear, Pufferfish, Bush, Bear and Toad in the Hole all took to the stage, but sadly, one masked performer had to leave. That turned out to be Toad and, as per the show's tradition, the person behind the mask had to reveal their 'true' identity.
However, before Macy was unmasked, she exited the stage when host Joel Dommett announced the unfortunate news of her departure. Viewers at home were taken aback when, moments later, the star returned to the stage, unveiled as Macy, who appeared less than pleased about her exit from the reality show. A source has now suggested that Macy was simply 'blindsided' by being one of the first to leave The Masked Singer, especially after reaching the final of the US version as Sea Queen in 2023. A source described her as 'almost shellshocked to start with' and 'gutted to be out so early because she really enjoyed being on the American version - when obviously she did brilliantly - so was totally blindsided.' Speaking to The Sun, they claimed: 'It was the shock of it for her as well as the upset and in that moment she had a very raw, human reaction and wanted out. For a professional performer to reach that point shows how badly she felt.' The source also claimed that it took some time for those backstage to 'talk her round', reports the Mirror. Reach has made attempts to contact her representatives and ITV for a statement following the uncomfortable incident where Macy returned to the stage with a less than thrilled expression. Fans were quick to react on social media, highlighting the tension. One viewer posted on Twitter: 'Well that was awkward... #maskedsingeruk.' (sic) Another commented with surprise: 'Wow is Macy Gray really that heartbroken that she's been kicked off Masked Singer.' And yet another shared: 'Oh everyone looks so awkward. She walked off stage. cannot deal #maskedsingeruk #maskedsinger.' (sic) The feeling of unease was echoed by another tweet, which read: 'Did anyone else feel awkward watching the last few minutes of that .. Macy Gray pls #maskedsingeruk.' (sic) The show's panel had strongly suspected that Toad in the Hole was indeed Macy Gray after she performed the Boney M classic Sunny, leading them to choose her for elimination over Bear, who also found themselves performing again to stay in the competition. When host Joel Dommett, aged 39, enquired if she had enjoyed her time on the show, Macy, known for her hit Sweet Baby, delivered a succinct 'Yeah' in response. Panel member Jonathan Ross humorously apologised to Macy for Joel's choice in shorts, while Joel expressed his gratitude for Macy's participation in the show. Macy, famed for her soulful tracks including the Grammy-winning hit I Try, graced the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury Festival in both 2000 and 2003. During an earlier segment of the show, she delivered a rendition of Sunny by Bobby Hebb, prompting panellist Mo Gilligan to speculate that behind the mask might be Tracy Chapman. In her Shakespearean garb, Macy performed Miami by Will Smith, and another character, Bush, opted for Jess Glynne's Hold My Hand. In other news from the show, the new panel member Maya Jama praised Pufferfish's rendition of Cyndi Laupers Girls Just Want to Have Fun as stunning. Bear gave a performance of Stay by The Kid Laroi and Justin Bieber, while Toad In The Hole chose Roxettes It Must Have Been Love. Eventually, the panel decided to keep Bear in the competition. Just last weekend, the audience was shocked to discover Olympian Sir Mo Farah was behind the host costume Joel portrayed. The Masked Singer will return next Saturday at 7pm on ITV1 and ITVX
