A DEVASTATING disorder which leaves sufferers shaking so badly they cannot even hold a cup of tea has been successfully treated - by burning out faulty circuits in the brain.
Patients of the"forgotten" illness include 27-year-old actor Robert Mallard, best known for his role as Daniel Osborne in the soap Coronation Street, screen and theatre legend Katharine Hepburn and Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes. The new treatment uses magnetic resonance imaging to guide beams of sound energy which heat and destroy the tissues causing mistimed electrical signals to be sent to muscles.
