Joining teams are mostly comprised of local government units including Marikina, Caloocan, Rizal, Biñan, Manila, Bucalan, Quezon City, Blue Hawks and the only Mindanao province competing Agusan de Norte which will follow the same Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) home-and-away format, making up more or less 65 games in its first season.

Following the success of the basketball side, the Pacquiao-founded volleyball league will launch the women’s category first before expanding to the men’s side by next year and eventually adding more teams in tow. Pacquiao reiterated that MPVA will also be focusing on the grassroots level like the MPBL which just recently launched the junior division.
