Umabot na umano sa mahigit 100 dayuhan ang binitay sa Saudi Arabia ngayong 2024, na ayon sa isang human rights group ay nagkaroon ng malaking pagtaas. Kabilang sa mga binitay ay isang Pinoy na naharap sa kasong pagpatay.

Ang naturang bilang ng mga binitay ay mula sa tala ng international news agency na Agence France-Presse. Nitong Sabado, nadagdag sa listahan ng mga binitay sa southwestern region na Najran, KSA, ay isang Yemeni national na sangkot sa pagpupuslit umano ng ilegal na droga, ayon naman sa ulat ng Saudi Press Agency.

“The Philippine government provided legal assistance and exhausted all possible remedies, including a presidential letter of appeal. But the victim’s family refused to accept blood money in return for forgiveness of the Filipino, and so the execution proceeded,” ayon sa DFA. Dahil pa rin sa pagpapatupad ng parusang kamatayan, patuloy na binabatikos ang mga human rights groups ang Saudi Arabia. Hindi umano ito magandang hakbang para makahikayat ng mga dayuhang turista at namumuhunan.

Tig-tatlo naman ang binitay na nagmula sa Sudan, India at Afghanistan, at tig-isa ang mula sa Sri Lanka, Eritrea at Pilipinas.
