18 people were shot dead in Lewiston, Maine, in the worst mass shooting in the US this year.
At a press conference at just after 10pm local time Janet Mills - the state's governor - confirmed the news.
"Like many people, I'm breathing a sigh of relief tonight knowing that Robert Card is no longer a threat to anyone", she said.Authorities confirmed that the body was found at 7:45pm in a wooded area, near the Androscoggin River in Lisbon Falls. A cause of death has not yet been officially given, but Card reportedly died of self-inflicted gunshot wounds to the head.
Robert Card, who was wanted in connection with the shootings at Schemengees Bar and Grille and at Sparetime Recreation bowling alley in Lewiston, is believed to have died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Card had been sought since the Wednesday night shootings, and murder warrants were issued against him.
