'Maisie is going to be inspiring future generations of women'

Northamptonshire's golden girl Maisie Summers-Newton is "inspiring future generations", according to a former Paralympian. Five-time medalist Clare Cunningham said Summers-Newton's win at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games was "so special".

Cunningham, who won five medals in swimming at Barcelona 1992, now believes stars like Summers-Newton will have a huge impact on the future uptake and wider interest in para sports. This year's Commonwealth Games saw the largest integrated para sports programme in the history of the games, spanning across eight different sports.

“Now Maisie is going to be inspiring future generations of women who may be short stature, that they can become swimmers as well, and hopefully see some success from that. This is what is so special about having para sport included within the Commonwealth Games. At NorthantsLive we're more than just news. We cover what people are talking about every day and celebrate the very best that this incredible part of the world has to offer.

The SportsAid Vault Podcast, hosted by BBC Sport presenter, commentator, and reporter Tom Gayle, is inspired by the Team England Futures programme.
