Major airport scraps hand luggage rule for holidaymakers with Manchester set to follow
London City Airport is the first airport in the UK to scrap the 100ml limit on liquids passengers can take in their hand luggage. The airport is removing the restriction in time for the Easter Holidays, The Metro reports.
The new security technology involves using computerised tomography scans to take a 3D image of the contents of the hand luggage. It also means passengers will no longer have to remove laptops and take them through security separately, making the process smoother and more efficient for holidaymakers.
The technology is being gradually rolled out at airports across the UK. The Manchester Evening News understands that Manchester Airport is finalising their programme for completing the upgrades to the current technology and that the new scanners will be introduced as soon as possible.
