The EU's Entry/Exit System which requires travellers to provide photos and fingerprints is being pushed back once more
Strict checks at EU borders which were due to be rolled out in November this year have been delayed again. The European Union was expected to launch the much-delayed Entry/Exit Scheme next month.
It’s designed to replace passport stamping and boost the security of member nations and the “EU’s neighbours”. But the system, which has faced multiple setbacks, is being postponed once again after several member states admitted they were not ready. On Thursday a meeting was held by EU interior ministers where Ylva Johanssen, Commissioner for Home Affairs, announced the delay, Euronews reports.
Ms Johannson implied that the system could be rolled out in a phased approach, saying “with a little step but step going into the system, not a Big Bang of all border crossing points at the same time.”
