Search teams looking for Jay Slater have switched to an 'unforgiving' ravine area in the Masca valley
The hunt for missing Lancashire teenager Jay Slater has seen search teams focus their efforts on a new area in a bid to locate him.
Despite being weary and having a low phone battery, he decided to brave the 11-hour journey and his last known location was within the popular trekking spot, Rural de Teno national park. In an update this afternoon , search and rescue groups wearing hard hats and other mountain rescue equipment have now turned their efforts toward a deep ravine in the Masca valley, the Mirror reports.
Earlier today, a police helicopter was spotted sweeping over the Masca Gorge, while officers from a mountain rescue unit named Greim, along with other personnel equipped with sniffer dogs, carried out searches on foot. While the guard is spearheading the operation, it is a coordinated effort involving multiple organisations, including firefighters and local Civil Protection workers.
"Officers obviously are prepared for the possibility they may find a body but at the moment everyone is focused on the idea he is still alive and they can help reunite him with his family and friends."
