The new project involves utility boxes across the town painted with artwork. The details of the plans are set to be released in May after the elections for the new administration at Stapleford Town Council.
The Beeston Street Art Project first began in 2018 by organiser Jeanie Barton and since then murals and ‘stunning’ artwork has been created all around the town. The plans for Stapleford will allow residents and artists to approach the council with their ideas for the utility boxes. “Then I became the mayor and presented an award for the Beeston Street Art Project which was unbelievable. To then actually sit in a council meeting last night and ask other councils to support my proposals and they did unanimously - it’s like a full circle. When I was a teenager I was told we weren't allowed to do it and now 30 years later I'm sitting as a councillor pushing these things forward and we’ve got permission to do it. Attitudes have changed.
