It will become the first of its kind in the UK when it opens
Plans for a pioneering £105m National Rehabilitation Centre in Nottinghamshire have been approved by the Government. The purpose-built rehabilitation centre, which will be run by Nottingham University Hospitals , will become the first of its kind in the UK when it opens in Stanford-on-Soar, Rushcliffe.
NRC programme director at NUH, Miriam Duffy, said the centre would "transform" how clinical rehabilitation is provided in the country. "This long overdue centre will push the boundaries of rehabilitation for the next generation and bring real impact in terms of helping people to realise their full potential following injury or illness,” she said.
The NRC will primarily treat patients from the East Midlands region and replace existing services in Nottingham. Concerns have previously been raised by Nottingham's Keep Our NHS Public campaign group about closing services "in favour of much less accessible regional ones".
