A major announcement on Australia’s future nuclear submarine program is only weeks away as the government desperately tries to dismiss concerns over a potential 30-year wait time.

The US Navy announced last week it would temporarily suspend operations at four west coast dry docks over concerns of a lack of preparedness for potential seismic earthquake activity.

The Defence Minister and Deputy Prime Minister dismissed concerns over the delivery timeline and said the finalisation of the details was at the “finishing line”.

“And while that will still be some time in the future, we also feel confident that the pathway that we will be announcing will deal with any question of a capability gap.”
