The message comes after a series of anti-tourism protests held in Majorca this summer
A leading tourism boss in Majorca has warned that the island can’t afford to lose British holidaymakers. Pedro Fiol, president of Aviba the Association of Balearic Travel Agents said that the UK is a "pillar of our tourist industry" and that Majorca "cannot forget our main economic engine is tourism".
Among the protestors’ main concerns are overcrowding, increased housing prices and damage to the local environment. Similar demonstrations have been held on neighbouring islands Ibiza and Menorca, as well as on the Canary Islands. But Speaking to local news site Majorca Daily Bulletin, Mr Fiol warns that the island cannot afford to lose the economic benefits tourists bring.
Mr Fiol said the main issue is that holidaymakers are having short holidays, therefore there is a great turnaround of tourists and an increased demand in flights and transfers. He also highlighted the fact that tourists want to visit key areas, which also leads to overcrowding.
