The Easter Road club followed up the sacking of Nick Montgomery with the news of his arrival this evening.
The Easter Road club followed up the sacking of Nick Montgomery this morning with the breaking news this evening that the former Ross County boss would be joining the Leith outfit at the start of next month as their new sporting director. He's been out of the game since his Dingwall exit but is now set to pitch up in the capital in a couple of weeks.
His appointment has not been welcomed by a leading Hibees supporters group who released a statement and promised they will be making their feelings clear. During his time in charge at Cardiff City, Mackay was accused of misconduct and sending several text messages of racist, sexist and homophobic content. He later issued an official apology over sending offensive messages. Ultras group Block Seven posted online: "Today the club announced the appointment of Malky Mackay as sporting director.
"Just two days ago against Aberdeen, the group displayed anti racism banners to show that it has no place in not only football, but the world we live in. To appoint this man just days later is nothing but an insult to the group for even making that statement in the first place. "Furthermore, just 10 days ago the club released a statement saying: 'the club condemns any form of racist or discriminatory behaviour towards any player, official, staff member or supporter. It is completely unacceptable, and has no place in the game or wider society. The club will take the strongest possible action against anyone identified in making discriminatory and hateful comments'.
