A man who crashed his car into the science building at a school in Melbourne's east has been flown to hospital in a critical condition. 9News

The 37-year old's family were among the first on the scene at Healesville High School on Sunday.

A man has been airlifted to hospital after he crashed his car into a building in Melbourne's north-east. The vehicle has been towed away to be checked for any mechanical faults while police investigate if the driver suffered a medical episode.It's believed the car may have travelled about 80 metres with no signs of braking before it hit the gutter, sending it airborne through the fence, down the embankment and into the school building.

Despite some structural damage the Department of Education said classes would be on as normal on Monday.
