Man charged with attempted murder after police officer stabbed
A man has been charged with attempted murder after a police officer was seriously injured in a stabbing in east London.He is due to appear at Thames Magistrates' Court on Friday morning.
The 28-year-old Metropolitan Police officer remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition after being stabbed in the head and body in Leyton around midnight on Thursday.His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening and Detective Chief Superintendent Richard Tucker said the officer"will make a recovery".The unnamed policeman is being treated for a wound to the side of his head, which requires stitches, and will have an operation on an injured hand.
The officer's family have been informed and are receiving support from Metropolitan Police family liaison officers.
