Police said the driver, 56-year-old James Corpuz, is being held on suspicion of vehicular homicide.
According to Denver Police, James Corpuz made a"reckless" right turn and drove into a yard, striking and killing a man.James Corpuz, 57, is being held on a charge of vehicular homicide related to the crash which happened around 3 p.m. Monday at the intersection of West Mississippi Avenue and South Irving Street. According to a probable cause statement of his arrest from Denver Police, Corpuz was headed west on Mississippi when he made a wide right in a"reckless manner.
The arrest affidavit from the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office related to his December 2012 arrest, indicates the Corpuz license had been revoked due to three prior alcohol-related offenses. The document also indicates that Corpuz told deputies he did not have his license with him - and provided them with a fake name.
Deputies also reported that Corpuz smelled of alcohol and had slurred speech and watery eyes.
