Charging documents have been filed for a man accused of fatally striking a Santaquin officer with a semi-truck exactly one week prior.
Michael Aaron Jayne , 42, had allegedly been holding a woman against her will prior to a traffic stop that led toAccording to a probable cause statement, Jayne had been driving the truck northbound on I-15 near mile marker 204 just before 6 a.m. on May 5.
Court documents stated Hooser then turned on his emergency lights and pulled over the driver along with Utah Highway Patrol trooper Dustin Griffiths. Officials stated she ran to the back of the trailer with her hands up, and Sgt. Hooser went to speak with her. After doing so, he "made a gesture to Trooper Griffiths while walking back to the semi-truck, indicating they needed to remove the driver and detain him."
Jayne allegedly accelerated so quickly that black smoke was billowing out of the exhaust smokestack, and he "turned the truck directly towards Sgt. Hooser," striking him in the back and pushing him into the front of the UHP patrol car, killing him. He drove that truck to an area south of Mona, where he abandoned it and found another vehicle with the keys inside, a 1976 Ford F250."Jayne drove to a remote house where no one was home. He then, after looking through the windows, got back in the F250 truck and drove it into the garage," arresting documents stated. "Jayne entered the home through the garage and stole boots and the keys to a white Ford F150.
