James Cook, 47, appeared at Paisley Sheriff Court charged with the murder of 52-year-old Alastair Campbell in Renfrew.
The 52-year-old was found with serious injuries in a common close in the town's Renfield Street during the early hours of Monday, October 30. Emergency services attended however Alastair, from Renfrew, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Cook made no plea or declaration while the case was committed for further examination. He is due to reappear in the dock within the next eight days.
