It is claimed the 36-year-old suspect was observed trying to open the doors of parked cars near the Morrisons store in Thread Street at around 6.50am on Friday.
Police said that, after speaking with the man, it was established that he did not have a reasonable excuse for attempting to access the vehicles and was taken into custody.
