The nearly year-and-a-half-long investigation revealed that the man inside the home during the explosion was the person responsible for the blast, police said.Mitchell Glen Evans, 33, is charged with arson of a habitation, a first-degree felony, the Westworth Police Department said in a news release.in Westworth Village, west of Fort Worth, near Burton Hill and White Settlement roads. The impact of the explosion left five homes uninhabitable.
Evans was inside the home when it exploded. He was flown to Parkland Hospital in critical condition with burns on 75% of his body. During the preliminary investigation, Atmos Energy had ruled its systems did not cause the explosion. The nearly year-and-a-half-long investigation revealed that Evans was the person responsible for the explosion, Westworth police said. The department didn't release details about the cause of the blast, only that Evans was responsible.The Fort Worth Fire Department Arson/Bomb Unit, and federal investigators from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives assisted in the investigation.
