Carlos Humberto Herrera-Anariba was arrested in Austin for allegedly setting fire to his family's apartment wall and couch, causing $500 in damages and facing a charge of arson of habitation. A 28-year-old man was arrested last week for allegedly setting fire to the wall and couch of his family's apartment in southeast Austin , authorities said.
According to the arrest affidavit, Herrera-Anariba's sister-in-law called 911 at 3:56 p.m. on Friday, July 26, reporting that he was putting paper in the wall and setting it on fire. Upon arrival, officers detected a burnt smell and found singed paper in the residence. During questioning, Herrera-Anariba told investigators he lit toilet paper on fire to produce smoke after believing something had run by him. He admitted to stuffing burning toilet paper into the wall and placing an unlit cigarette in the hole.
