This is the moment a businessman caught his best friend of 25 years stealing almost £4,000 from him to fund a cocaine habit.
But he was shocked when he watched footage back and saw that childhood friend Billy Smith, 32, had been helping himself to Mr Williams’ savings.Mr Williams said it was a ‘huge betrayal’ after he’d trusted his friend to a spare key to house-sit at his home in Larkfield, Kent, while he was on holiday with his family.
The two men became friends after meeting at primary school, before going on to work as colleagues at a leisure centre and playing in the same football teams.Lawn company owner Mr Williams had asked Smith, of Aylesford, to check on his home while they were away but instead he helped himself to £1,000 of cash hidden in the bedroom.
He assumed he had misplaced it until he noticed another £700 went missing two weeks later and decided to install a camera.The dad-of-two said: ‘It was a huge betrayal of trust, I didn’t think he’d ever stoop that low. He was in our wedding pictures, we had photos of him in the front room and on the stairs, holding the kids.He avoided jail but has ruined his 25-year friendship
