A Detective Sergeant said the occupants were 'unharmed but understandably they are both shaken by the ordeal'.
It happened in the Orchardville Avenue area in the early hours of Friday at a home occupied by a man and woman aged in their eighties.
Police received a report shortly before 1.20am that a man had been knocking on the door of the property and when it was opened, he "pushed past" the occupants and made his way upstairs.He was apprehended by two members of the public until police arrived a short time later. A Detective Sergeant said the occupants were "unharmed but understandably they are both shaken by the ordeal".
The PSNI said a man aged 20 has since been charged with burglary with intent to steal, assault and threats to kill.As is normal procedure all charges are reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.For all the latest news, visit the Belfast Live homepage here.
