A man has been charged after an 11-year-old girl was stabbed in Leicester Square yesterday . Ioan Pintaru, 32, with no fixed abode, has been charged with attempted murder and possession of a bladed article and is set to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court this morning .
The incident occurred at 11.34am on Monday, prompting police to rush to the scene after reports of a stabbing. The young girl was found with serious but non-life-threatening stab wounds and was quickly taken to hospital. Initially, it was thought that her mother, aged 34, had also been injured; however, it was later clarified that she was not harmed, and the blood on her was from her daughter's wounds.A spokesperson for the London Ambulance Service detailed their response: "We were called at 11.36am on Monday 12 August to reports of a stabbing at Leicester Square. We sent resources to the scene, including an ambulance crew, an advanced paramedic and an incident response officer.
Following the attack, a police cordon was established around the entrance of a TWG Tea shop on Leicester Square, adjacent to the LEGO store and opposite the MandM store, as families and tourists queued nearby, reports the Mirror.
