AUSTIN, Texas — A man has been arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after aThe Austin Police Department said at approximately 1:09 a.m. on July 4, officers responded to a two-vehicle crash in the 11800 block of northbound Research Boulevard, not far from the Covert Buick GMC dealership.
Police said a blue SUV was stalled in a lane of traffic when a gray SUV struck the blue SUV from behind. The passenger of the blue SUV was pronounced dead at the scene, and the driver of that car was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the gray SUV, later identified as 54-year-old Calory Wabusia, was transported with minor injuries and later arrested for DWI.APD said the investigation into this crash is still pending, but it is being investigated as Austin's 39 fatal crash of the year, resulting in 40 deaths. On July 4, 2023, Austin had seen 51 fatal crashes resulting in 51 deaths.
