A 52-year-old man has been charged with murder following the death of a 73-year-old pensioner in Southport. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.
A man has been charged with murder after a pensioner was found dead inside a house before Christmas. Emergency services were called to Braemar Avenue in Southport shortly before midnight on Sunday (December 22). It followed reports of a concern for safety of a man at a bungalow. Paramedics found the 73-year-old man dead and his family are being supported by specialist officers. John David Sarwanskyj, 52 years, of Braemar Avenue in Southport has been charged with murder.
He remains in custody and is due to appear Liverpool Magistrates Court on Thursday (December 26). Police officers remain outside the property at the centre of a murder investigation. Officers were pictured at the scene on Christmas Day and the small pedestrianised portion of the street is still cordoned off. When the ECHO attended the scene on Monday (December 23), a cordon was in place surrounding a number of bungalows. A neighbour living on Bellis Avenue told the ECHO on Christmas Eve that the man who died had 'been living there a few years, maybe four or five years. He just kept himself to himself. I would see him walking past most days to go into town.' Detective Chief Inspector Alan Nuttall said: “Although a charge has been made, we continue to appeal for information to establish the full circumstances of what has taken place. I would ask anyone that was in the vicinity of Braemar Avenue at that time who we haven’t already spoken to get in touch with us. 'In addition, I also ask those with CCTV or dashcam footage to please check it to see if it may have captured something significant that will help with the investigation.
