The man charged with kidnapping and murdering missing New Zealand real estate agent Yanfei Bao is Chinese national Tingjun Cao, who has only been in New Zealand since March.
Cao appeared by video link in the High Court in Christchurch on Friday in front of Justice Cameron Mander and Bao's husband, Paul Gooch. Cao looked visibly thinner than he did at his first court appearance but remained expressionless throughout the hearing. Bao's body has not been found, despite extensive searches that have largely been concentrated in the Greenpark area, 30 minutes' drive from Christchurch.Police and emergency staff search a private pond near the corner of Davidson and Hudson roads in Ellesmere, south of Christchurch, last week.
Police believed the items were discarded in the Christchurch area some time between about midday on July 19 and about 5pm on July 22.Christchurch police have appealed for help in relation to the murder of Bao, including items of clothing they are seeking.The alleged murderer's car, a silver Mitsubishi sedan, which was a focus of police inquiries, was found parked near the airport the same day he was arrested.READ MORE:At 11.
