Manchester City are looking to tie down Erling Haaland at the Etihad and clubs across Europe will be watching with interest
There is some belief in the corridors of power at Manchester City that player contracts are not that important.
Erling Haaland is already a top earner at the Etihad but is the latest target for an extension, with talks expected to intensify over the coming months. With his initial deal stretching to 2027, an add-on could see the world's best strikers spend most of his 20s in Blue.ALSO READ: Alvarez overtakes Haaland in key metric to give Man City perfect problem
Rafaela Pimenta, his agent, has said similar about an asset she values at £1 billion when factoring in image and sponsor value on top of his football. "I've done every contract in this agency for the last 25 years," she said earlier this year. "There wasn't a single time a player said 'I want to leave' and couldn't do it."
However, agreeing improved terms would back up the belief in the club that Haaland is happy in Manchester - and make a statement heard across European football that the wait to get the striker everybody wants may go on even longer. Almost as soon as it was announced that City had signed Haaland, media in Germany and Spain started talking about release clauses that would increase the chances of the player moving on swiftly to one of their major clubs.
