Manchester City can appeal to fans all over the world but there will be consequences if they ignore their loyal supporters
Manchester City as a football club are basking in the success that winning the Treble has brought them.
Selling more than 31,500 tickets for a Community Shield game that tens of thousands of season ticket holders deliberately boycotted was a striking sign of how big the club has become, an impressive achievement that again likely wouldn't have been possible a few years ago before last season's astonishing success.
Pep Guardiola is a man who wants every edge possible and there will be at least once this season where he demands more from supporters - quite possibly in the bear pit at Burnley in the first game - to lift the players and put off the opposition. Last season the Etihad transformed into a fortress that genuinely intimidated visitors, possibly for the first time consistently in the Guardiola era.
