Khadija 'Bunny' Shaw once again showed her brilliance against Liverpool by scoring a brace that propelled City to the top of the WSL table
If you were to look up the word 'inevitable' in the dictionary, it would be of little surprise to see Khadija 'Bunny' Shaw listed among the definitions.
Liverpool, though, are far from the only side to have been burned by Shaw's brilliance. Last season, the striker - who joined City on a free transfer from French Division 1 side Bordeaux in July 2021 - won the WSL Golden Boot after scoring 21 goals in just 18 appearances. The previous campaign, she managed 20 in 22.
When Taylor's side were pipped by Chelsea to the WSL title on goal difference a fortnight later, it was impossible not to wonder whether things might have turned out differently had Shaw been available to face the Gunners. Her sustained prolificacy in front of goal has inevitably drawn comparisons with City men's sensation Erling Haaland and, after the pair were honoured at the PFA Awards in August 2023, the club's official Facebook account shared a photo of them posing side by side.
Like the Norwegian goal-scoring phenom, Shaw is accustomed to tearing up the record books on a startlingly regular basis. In March 2023, she became the the highest scoring women's player across a single season for City.
