A man is fighting for his life in hospital after a motorist allegedly drove on the wrong side of the road and hit four people. It is thought a row outside a nightclub led to the driver careering their vehicle into a group of people along Shaftesbury Avenue in west London . A 31-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder . One man is in a critical condition. Three other people were also injured but the nature and severity have not been disclosed by police.
Deputy Assistant Commissioner Stuart Cundy, of Metropolitan Police, said: 'Officers responded quickly to this report, working closely with City of London Police to arrest a man within minutes. Detectives are quickly progressing enquiries as part of this investigation. It’s believed that the suspect was involved in an altercation at a nightclub prior to getting in his car and mounting the pavement. Several scenes remain in place at the location today.
